Habitat for Humanity York County is excited to return to Saco. The Saco home will be our third modular home! We anticipate the home will be delivered in November and volunteer opportunities will begin before Thanksgiving. After the home is delivered volunteers help with flooring, painting, drywall touch ups, insulation, and more!

Meet Justin and Willow
Justin will be purchasing the Saco home through an affordable mortgage
Justin began his journey in life a couple towns over from the small quaint city of Burlington, Vermont, best known for Ben & Jerry's ice cream, the band Phish, and senator Bernie Sanders. At age eight, all that Justin knew would change forever. Justin's mom was working at a big telecommunications company for approximately two years, when an opportunity presented itself in the large and colorful city of Portland, Maine, best known for lobster fishermen and actress Anna Kendrick.
On September 27, 1999, with a fully loaded twenty-six foot U-Haul and 250 miles of open road, Justin ran away. Halfway up a tall tree, he was stubbornly protesting, refusing to leave friends and family behind. His mom recalls her frustration at the time and how, even after getting him down from the tree and into the truck, having to hold the door closed. With Justin overwhelmingly wishing to go home, she fought for the first few hours to keep him from escaping. Finally reaching her breaking point, she exasperatedly exclaimed, “Just jump”. Feeling defeated, Justin accepted his fate, establishing roots in Maine.

Justin has supported adults with intellectual disabilities in Central and Southern Maine for over eight years. The most rewarding part of his job is seeing the pride and happiness each time a consumer reaches their goal. Clients in this job are referred to as consumers to distinguish each person is able to choose their preferred service provider. Encouraging and uplifting confidence within these individuals to overcome challenges, some of which they never thought possible, is immensely rewarding. The opportunity to start an exciting new chapter, thanks to Habitat for Humanity, is helping Justin overcome his own challenges. Not only does it provide stability for him and his young daughter, it affords him the ability to continue working within the community, further bettering himself and others.

Willow began her journey through life in between Portland and Biddeford, Maine, best known for the University of New England and a revitalized downtown area. Currently two years of age, she has shown interests in singing, dancing, and creating music. Willow has an innate ability for humor and applying it in daily interactions, creating laughter and smiles everywhere she goes. Skilled with empathy and compassion she enjoys making new friends. She is an energetic little girl who loves to have fun whether it is monkeying around at the playground; running and climbing; learning to swim; or riding her scooter and bike. Willow is an amazing, lively little girl who keeps her very proud father on his toes!

Moving to Saco will mean a serene place to start each day and a safe place to relax at night. A place that is going to be full of laughter, joy and love. A place conducive to learning and teaching about landscape design, gardening, caring for the land, plus so much more! Moving to a place with a distinguished education system guaranteeing a bright future for Willow and peace of mind for Justin. Moving to Saco will mean a place to call home.
